Een warme dag, kinderen die naar buiten willen, en jij die liever niet de hele middag onderweg bent. Met water in de eigen tuin kom je een heel eind. Tien ideeën waarvoor je bijna niets nodig hebt.
1. De sproeier aan
Zet de tuinsproeier aan en laat ze erdoorheen rennen en eroverheen springen. Waarom moeilijk doen. 
2. Waternevel maken
Plantenspuiten of kleine verstuivers zijn bij elk tuincentrum te krijgen. Ideaal voor een watergevecht, en een prima manier om zelf ook af te koelen. 
3. Een klein zwembadje
Een opblaasbadje is snel gevuld en werkt meteen als vulstation voor alle andere activiteiten hieronder. Laat het water niet dagenlang staan, en gooi het leeg als er niemand bij is. 
4. Sponzengevecht
Een emmer met water en een stapel sponzen. Zachter dan waterballonnen, en er blijft niets liggen om op te ruimen. 
5. Speelgoed uit het ijs bevrijden
Vul bakjes met water en klein speelgoed en zet ze in de vriezer. Laat de kinderen daarna het speelgoed eruit halen: met warm water, met zout, met een lepel. Je kunt er een wedstrijd van maken. Let wel op de vingers bij gereedschap. 
6. Verven met water
Kwasten en een emmer water, en dan schilderen op de tegels, op hout of op stenen. Het droogt weer op, dus je houdt er niets van over. Dat is precies het punt. 
7. Schietschijf voor waterpistolen
Plak met tape een kruis op de achterkant van een kartonnen doos of op een ronde schijf, hang hem op en laat ze richten. 
8. Waterballonnen
Die kunnen natuurlijk niet ontbreken. Er zijn tegenwoordig herbruikbare varianten van silicone, wat schelen in de rommel: gewone ballonnen laten kleine stukjes rubber in het gras achter. 
9. Zelf bellenblaas maken
Meng 12 kopjes water met 1 kopje glucosestroop en roer goed. Voeg daarna 2 kopjes afwasmiddel toe en roer voorzichtig door. Even laten staan maakt het nog beter. Grote bellen lukken met een lus van touw tussen twee stokken. 
10. IJssandwiches
Bak koekjes, laat ze afkoelen en doe er een bolletje ijs tussen. Niet direct water, wel de beste afsluiting van een warme middag.

- Houd toezicht bij water. Ook een badje van twintig centimeter is voor een dreumes gevaarlijk, en verdrinken gaat geluidloos.
- Smeer ook in de tuin. Water weerkaatst de zon, en natte huid verbrandt sneller dan je denkt.
- Leeg het badje na afloop en zet het op zijn kant.
- Gebruik het water daarna voor de planten. Scheelt in de zomer een hoop kraanwater.
